OK. I feel obliged to blog after weeks of reading what other people write about (I feel like a stalker sometimes).

Caught Harry Potter today (if you have not already noticed from my Twitter and MSN) and I felt it was good, much better than the flak it's been receiving from other people who've watched it. Honestly I find it a lot better than the steaming overrated noisy pile of crap that is Transformers (you guys know you only watched it because of a certain Megan Fox. Admit it, the robots were just a pathetic contrived plot device designed to give us more time to watch her run in slow motion. Not to say I didn't enjoy it). It's got it's funny moments and it brings a lot of emotion into the whole thing. Sure it doesn't have a lot of action and it cuts out some parts of the book (somewhat disappointing) but it's still a good movie and people should give it a chance...

THERE'S EMMA WATSON IN IT FOR CHRIST'S SAKE!

So go watch it.

OK but seriously, it's decent and not half as bad as people make of it. And Emma Watson is also seriously gorgeous (this word is weird).




On the other hand, I can't believe the amount of people that are making comparisons between Twilight and Harry Potter.

Is this supposed to be an insult to the HP franchise?

In one corner we have the undisputed champion, Harry Potter, having sold millions of copies and been turned into equally competent movies and ultimately a series that has captured the hearts of many and built a gigantic fanbase.

In the other corner we have the challenger, Twilight, selling not nearly as much as the former, it is a series based off a boring, predictable and cliched romance between two typical lovers that yes, ends happily. It's fans are mostly made up of prepubescent love-deprived girls that think romance and happy endings are the only thing life is worth living for. This group of people also often falls under the category of Losers.

The result is obvious. HP wins in the book fight by a mile. Stephanie Meyer writes like an amateur compared to Rowling's superlative prose and startlingly brilliant imagination. Whilst Meyer feels describing Edward's impossible perfection to be of paramount importance, Rowling adds a touch of humor and camaraderie into her writing, while masterfully navigating the reader through an intricate maze that is her plot.

The movie. Is there even a need to discuss this? One features an outstanding cast (how many of you just love to hate Snape? Malfoy is so arrogantly annoying he is adorable) and is cinematographically stellar while the other is just another snore fest with wannabe actors and a lame plot oversaturated with extremely cheesy love lines.
